University of Nottingham is ranked in the UK’s top 20 and the World’s top 100 universities according to the Shanghai Jiao Tong (SJTU) and Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. Nottingham is famous for its ground-breaking internationalisation, being the first UK university to establish campuses in Malaysia and China.
The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC), is a full and integral part of the University and was founded in 2000. It occupies a 125-acre purpose-built site south of Kuala Lumpur. Currently, some 4,000 students study for UK degrees on the campus.
UNMC is led by senior academic staff seconded from the UK who ensures high standards of teaching, learning and assessment. All students receive personal tutorial attention from qualified academic staff, and most have the opportunity to spend one semester on the UK or China campus during their studies. All programs are internationally recognized and accredited as University of Nottingham, UK, awards. Degree certificates are ‘University of Nottingham’ degree qualifications, irrespective of campus or country.
Employers recognize Nottingham graduates as amongst the most talented and highly qualified, and we have a strong network of alumni associations and industry partners offering internships, career guidance and employment opportunities in a wide range of professions.
The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, a campus of The University of Nottingham UK was established in 2000. In the year 2000, Nottingham made history by becoming the first British university to open a fully operational overseas branch campus.
Sir Colin Campbell, the Vice Chancellor then said that the opening of the university culminates the 50 years of educational links between Malaysia and the UK. Eleven years on, the University is proudly celebration international educational and research excellence at The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.
The university first opened its doors in Kuala Lumpur 10 years ago with just 300 students and operating temporarily from the previous National Arts Gallery building. The university at the pioneering stage offered courses in management and business, electrical and electronic engineering, computer science and information technology. The current student population in Malaysia has grown to a community of 4,000 students from 72 countries and based at the garden campus in Semenyih.
In 1988 when the Vice-Chancellor at that time, Sir Colin Campbell, began discussions to turn the vision of an overseas campus into a reality, Asia was a natural choice. Negotiations began with the Malaysian authorities and relationships were built and strengthened over a ten year period, until in 1998, a partnership with the University, Boustead Holdings Berhad and YTL Corporation Berhad was formally announced.
The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus was approved in March 2000 and opened at Wisma MISC, Kuala Lumpur in September 2000.
