تأسست جامعة إم إم يو سنة 1996 م. وهي تُعتبر جامعةً من الطراز الأول بين الجامعات الخاصة الماليزية.جامعة ملتميديا في ماليزيا التي تديرها شركة الاتصالات الماليزية (Telecom Malaysia) وتُعرف على أنها إحدى أهم الجامعات الخاصة الماليزية وأكثرها اعتباراً، نوصي بالدراسة فيها في التخصصات المختلفة لفروع الحاسوب، والوسائط المتعددة، والأنيمايشن، وتقنية المعلومات، والإلكترونيات، والتكنولوجيا الصغروية، والتخصصات المختلفة لفرع الإدارة.
تملك جامعة MMU فرعين، أحدهما في القاعدة التكنولوجية لماليزيا، مدينة “سايبرجايا”، والآخر في مدينة “ملاكا” التاريخية ويدرس فيها أكثر من 20،000 طالب نشيط. تدرس أغلبية الطلاب الأجانب لهذه الجامعة خاصة طلاب الدراسات العليا، في فرع سايبرجايا. بالرغم من أن تكاليف المعيشة في مدينة ملاكا أرخص منها في مدينة سايبرجايا، غير أن قرب سايبرجايا من العاصمة الماليزية كوالالمبور، عامل مهم في اختيار هذا الفرع للدراسة.
تبعد مدينة سايبرجايا (Cyberjaya) مسافة 25 دقيقة قيادة عن العاصمة كوالالمبور وتقع على بعد 30 كيلومتراً منها. ويبعد الفرع الثاني لهذه الجامعة في مدينة ملاكا (Malaca) مسافة ساعة ونصف بالسيارة عن العاصمة كوالالمبور ويقع على بعد 137 كيلومتراً عنها.
لقد أدى وجود جامعة “ليم كوك وينج للتقنية الإبداعية” وكذلك الشركات التجارية والاتصالاتية الماليزية الكبرى في مدينة سايبرجايا، إلى تحول هذه المدينة إلى إحدى أهم المدن الماليزية. مدينة ملاكا هي من المدن الأثرية في ماليزيا والتي يقصدها كثير من السياح سنوياً من مختلف أنحاء العالم.
